Who we are

This website is operated by Newstar Gen Limited (“we”, “us”, “our”), a company based in Hong Kong providing software engineering, digital marketing and business consulting services. We are the data user responsible for personal data collected through this website, and we handle it in accordance with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong (the “PDPO”).

This statement also serves as our Personal Information Collection Statement for the enquiry form on this website.

What we collect

We only collect personal data that you choose to give us. When you send an enquiry we collect:

  • your name and email address (required);
  • your company name and telephone number (optional);
  • your area of interest and the details of your enquiry;
  • the date and time of your enquiry and confirmation that you agreed to this policy.

Supplying your name, email address and enquiry is necessary for us to respond to you. If you do not provide them, we will not be able to reply.

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information when pages are requested (such as IP address, browser type and the time of the request) in server logs, for security and to keep the website running. We do not use this information to identify you.

To protect the enquiry form from spam, the website keeps a scrambled, one-way coded version of your IP address for up to one hour to limit repeated submissions. It cannot be turned back into your address, is not stored with your enquiry, and is then deleted automatically.

How we use it

We use the personal data you provide to:

  • respond to your enquiry and discuss your requirements;
  • prepare proposals and, if you become a client, assign and introduce your dedicated account manager;
  • keep a record of our correspondence;
  • meet our legal and regulatory obligations.

We do not sell your personal data, and we will not use it for direct marketing without first obtaining your consent as required by Part 6A of the PDPO.

Who we share it with

Your personal data may be accessed by our staff and by trusted service providers who help us operate this website and our business — currently Hostinger, which hosts this website, and Google, which provides our business email. They may only use it on our instructions and must keep it secure and confidential.

We may also disclose personal data where required by law, court order or a regulator, or to protect our legal rights.

Transfers outside Hong Kong

Some of our service providers, such as email and hosting services, may store or process data on servers located outside Hong Kong. Where this happens we take reasonable steps to ensure your personal data receives a level of protection comparable to that required under the PDPO.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details for no longer than is necessary for the purposes above. Enquiries that do not lead to an engagement are deleted 24 months after we receive them: the website deletes its copy automatically, and we delete the email copy in our mailbox on the same basis. Records relating to clients are kept for as long as our business relationship lasts and for any period required by law afterwards.

Security

We take practical steps to protect personal data against unauthorised or accidental access, processing, erasure, loss or use — including encrypted (HTTPS) connections to this website, restricted access to enquiry records and requiring our service providers to do the same. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

Cookies and storage

When you first visit this site, you will see a cookie banner offering three choices: Accept All, Reject Non-Essential, or Manage Preferences. No cookies are set and nothing is sent to anyone before you choose; the only things kept in your browser beforehand are the two temporary session values described below, which the site needs in order to work. You can change your choice at any time using the small icon in the corner of the screen, or the “Manage Cookie Preferences” link in the footer.

We use three categories:

  • Necessary — required for the site to function (for example, remembering that you have already made a cookie choice). Always on, and set only after you interact with the banner.
  • Analytics — would help us understand how the site is used. Not currently in use on this site; your preference is stored and will apply automatically the moment it is.
  • Marketing — would be used for advertising personalisation. Not currently in use on this site, for the same reason.

Your choice is remembered with a small value stored in your browser’s local storage, named ng_cookie_consent. It holds only your three choices and the date you made them, and no personal data.

To make the site work smoothly we also store two small, temporary values in your browser’s session storage: ng-intro, which remembers you have already seen the opening animation, and ng-curtain, which runs the page-change transition. They contain no personal data, are never sent to us, and are deleted automatically when you close the browser tab.

We have verified directly that this site sets no cookies and loads nothing from any other company’s servers, before or after you make a choice. If we introduce analytics or marketing tools in the future, we will update this policy with the specific cookies involved before any non-essential cookie is set, not after.

Your rights

Under the PDPO you have the right to ask whether we hold your personal data, to request a copy of it, and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. You may also ask us to stop using your personal data for direct marketing at any time.

To make a request, please write to our Privacy Officer using the details below. We will respond within 40 days as required by the PDPO. We may charge a reasonable fee for complying with a data access request, as permitted by law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be available on this page, with the date it was last updated shown at the top.
